The UA Cooperative Extension Service recently released their 2013 crop enterprise budgets.  The budgets show the returns before land, management, and overhead expenses are accounted.  Corn, Soybeans, Rice, Sorghum, and Cotton are in order from most to least profitable according to the 2013 budgets.

The American Society of Farm Managers & Rural Appraisers held their annual meeting and AgroNomics - Vision 2012 on October 29 - November 2, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The conference had many outstanding speakers on a range of farmland topics.

Some of the key speakers were Steve Elmore, Michael Swanson, Mike Walsten, and Mark Dotzour, and an entertaining finale by Lowell Catlett.

Farm Journal has a web site and annual report on succession planning.  The site and report provides valuable information that can be a conversation starter for families in order to jumpstart a difficult subject most families probably avoid discussing.

On August 3, the USDA released data pertaining to farmland values in the US.  Overall, the report indicated US Farmland values increased 11%.  Arkansas Irrigated and Non-irrigated cropland increased 12.2% and 11.4%, respectively on average.  Mississippi Irrigated and Non-irrigated cropland increased 3.1% and 2.1%, respectively on average.  Missouri Irrigated and Non-irrigated cropland increased 11.4% and 13.8%, respectively on average.
